Swedish Business Awards 2006
Swedish Business Awards 2006 were held in the State Small Theatre of Vilnius on the 6th of June, 2006 - the National Day of Sweden.
The Event started at 13.00 and was opened in an original way - on-stage dialogue of the Ambassador of Sweden to Lithuania Mrs. Malin Kärre and the Executive Officer of Swedish Trade Council in Lithuania Mr. Mantas Zalatorius. Quote from the opening speech of Mrs. Malin Kärre: “Well, it seems very natural to me to honor the Swedish national day here in Lithuania with some serious reflection over the impact Sweden business, its management style etc., has made in modern Lithuania. It has been the dream of mine since I came here: to highlight the Swedish–Lithuanian business cooperation and to share the pride of the joint achievements behind the fact that Sweden remains among the top foreign investors in Lithuania.”
H. E. President of the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Valdas Adamkus delivered inspiring speech about Lithuania’s economical development and integration to European Union, noting the importance of Swedish-Lithuanian cooperation - integration of the two countries into a single market. Quote from the speech of H. E. President of the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Valdas Adamkus: “I am convinced that an event like this adds enormous value to the quality of bilateral business relations and investment opportunities.”
Mr. Carl Eric Stålberg, Chairman of the Swedbank Board, introduced important aspects of development in the light of globalization, as well as presented numerous issues to be dealt with in geographically growing business. ”There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. These are things we don’t know we don’t know.” Mr. Donald Rumsfeld quoted in the speech of Mr. Carl Eric Stålberg.
Mr. Kjell Enhager, Swedish business and sports coach, shared his experiences with the attendees of the event on setting the mind for winning. The topic of this session was “the difference that makes the difference”. “I know it is impossible, but try to imagine if it was possible…” – Mr. Kjell Enhager provoked.
The event was attended by more than two hundred Swedish and Lithuanian decision makers and guests. During a coffee break, guests had a chance to chat with keynote speakers and to taste Swedish snacks.
Mr. Rolandas Barysas, Editor-in-chef of the leading Lithuanian business daily Verslo Žinios (member of the Dagens Industri group) moderated the panel discussion. Mr. Rolandas Barysas provoked the discussion with a short presentation on challenges of Lithuanian and Swedish businesses and key issues that companies overcome initiating activities abroad. The attendees of the event actively participated in this discussion posting questions and expressing opinions. The panel discussion was held between seven participants: Mr. Erik Hallberg, Mr. Carl Eric Stålberg, Mrs. Malin Kärre, Mr. Mantas Zalatorius, Mr. Kjell Enhager Mr. Tomas Andrejauskas, Mr. Rolandas Barysas.
Culmination of the Event, the Awards ceremony was held by the Ambassador of Sweden to Lithuania, Mrs. Malin Kärre and Executive Officer of Swedish Trade Council in Lithuania, Mr. Mantas Zalatorius. Maxit UAB was awarded for the fastest growth, TEO LT – for the most relevant contribution to the development of society in Lithuania and Omnitel UAB – for implementation of the most notable innovation.

Ambassador of Sweden to Lithuania, Mrs. Malin Kärre, invited all guests for a glass of champagne and to the reception of the National Day of Sweden at the Embassy of Sweden in Vilnius. Quote from the introduction to the closing speech, Mr. Mantas Zalatorius: “So, Malin, it looks like the dream to honor the Swedish companies, contributing to the development of modern Lithuania, has finally come true.” Mrs. Malin Kärre: “Learning is and should be an ongoing process. This event will hopefully contribute to this learning process between Lithuanian and Swedish business people. Because I think I can establish that today's event has been a great success and it should be annual. So see you at next Swedish Business Awards in 2007.”
